Golden Hex Store before and after. How it all started.

The AVAILABLE sign we found in Cary, 2017

This post is about the first step: finding the proper space for our future Golden Hex store. We started around the end of the summer, looking through online ads for commercial properties and Craigslist, and exploring areas by driving. The situation seemed more difficult than we expected. The buildings we loved had restrictions. Most plaza owners or realtors could not even consider us because they had another "food venue" on the property, across the street or within the commercial neighborhood.

We were slowly losing hope of finding the space that we all wanted: a building that could be easily seen from the road, with large and open windows, in the town of Cary.

In Russian we say "A journalist is fed by his legs." It means that if you wish to accomplish something meaningful, you have to put in more effort and get out. One of those days, guarded by our four-wheel legs, we drove around Cary till we saw a sign, right on the street, with beautiful letters: "AVAILABLE!"

Since Arthur is also an NC Realtor, we were allowed to enter the place, and as soon as we walked in, we immediately knew. That. Was. IT!

We were warned ahead that registering the business in Cary was not as easy as we thought, so it took us a few months to get all the permissions and permits while fixing up the space. It was a tremendous amount of work and heart that Arthur and Erik put in within the last six months.
